Social media is an amazing tool that, when used correctly, can serve and support your business’ success. At the same time, you don’t want to be losing gobs of time keeping up with too many platforms or accounts. It’s all about that balance. You need to do social media on your terms but still be strategic in it.
Quality, not Quantity
For one, don’t be discouraged if your follower count isn’t as high as you’d like it to be. It’s not about how many followers you have as much as it’s about how hot they are. You don’t want your followers to just add up virtually without turning into clients in the real world. You are far better served by having 200 followers that know you, trust you, and rave about you than having 2,000 that don’t have a clue or, worse, 20,000 that are bots.
The reason you want to use social media is to drive clients to your business. And while having a high follower count is beneficial, your ability to turn those followers into connections is how you ensure you are using social media in a profitable way.
Power of Personality
The best way to drive engagement with your social media profiles is by bringing your personal touch forward in all of your content. Stop broadcasting yourself and instead make this a one-on-one conversation with your future clients. Really, all social media does is create a one-on-one conversation with your ideal client, but while the whole world is listening, tuning in, and even commenting. You don’t want to be shouting at the world because then you are ignoring and disconnecting your client.
A few ways to bring yourself into your social media presence could be by blending your business profile with your personal profile, keeping a consistent profile look among all platforms and crafting a profile that captures your creativity. Use language that identifies you as yourself, not just a business. And remember, the point of building relationships through social media is that you will ultimately be able to bring that relationship outside and into the real world as a future client.
Social media is not for hiding, it’s for sharing the greatness in others. And then, they’ll reciprocate by sharing the greatness in you. That’s really what it’s for, and you will succeed with this most when you embrace your personal touch in combination with your brand. Remember, the key to leveraging social platforms is to remember they are there to drive your business, not just your social engagement!
